Brit's view for Liverpool is spot on
April 18, 2007 11:51 AM

PHIL Bimpson, according to our front page last week, is uniting the Liverpools of the world - if only by his presence. The English Liverpudlian landed in our Liverpool last week to take his world tally to seven places on the globe which are lucky enough to be called Liverpool.

But what was really interesting to me was what Mr Bimpson had to say about our town.

''Of all the Liverpools, this is the most like England's; it's cosmopolitan,'' Mr Bimpson told our reporter.

''I want to see it develop the same pride that we have back home.

''Something very humanitarian is going on here.''

He's obviously a very perceptive person in that after just a short while here he seemed to have grasped our essence, our very own Liverpool zeitgeist.

I don't know much about Liverpool in England, other than that they have a very famous soccer club and an even more famous song sung by its supporters in the terraces: You'll Never Walk Alone.

But I had also heard that English Liverpudlians are fiercely proud of where they come from, thus phil's comment: ''I want to see it [Liverpool, NSW] develop the same pride that we have back home.''

Well, Phil, we are proud of our Liverpool, but, yes, you're right, we could be even more proud of it.

While he's also right about our great, big melting pot of nationalities living peacefully side by side, there are some things that could be better here.

Like our council. And by that I don't mean the current councillor-less administration, but the virulent political games that are played out when we do get to have elected representatives.

The ALP decision that anyone from their ranks who was on the council that was sacked on April 2004 will not be allowed to seek re-election in 2008 is a good omen.

The next council elections will be crucial. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to start again in Liverpool.

By that I mean having people on the council who will always put Liverpool first before any other considerations.

If we can get this right the rest will follow, including grand dreams of a first-class leisure and entertainment area alongside the Georges River and cutting-edge sporting facilities.

We can do it, Phil; we just need a little faith and a lot of hard work.

"MY ARTICAL IS ABOUT THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIVERPOOL AND ITS PEOPLE,WE ARE PROUD,AND HAVE A RICH HISTORICAL PAST.
WE ALSO WON THE CAPITAL OF CULTURE FOR 08.SO I'M GLAD THE READERS OF THE SUN CAN HAVE AN UNBIASED VIEW OF MY HOME TOWN,I REPRESENT LIVERPOOL NOT THE NEWSPAPER? DON'T YOU AGREE?"

Surely you can use a different paper? As someone from Liverpool im amazed that you would associate yourself with that rag and even contribute to it.

As an abbasador to Liverpool, showing the world our culture and heritage shouldnt you be showing the world that the people of Liverpool dont have anythin to do with that rag?

Phil says. 12.23.

Unfortunatly i can only get coverage from certain papers,i'm on my own here. so why dont YOU tell the other papers what i'm doing??
I would be gratful for any help cos i'm paying for this my self and i'm a one man band?
I need all the HELP i can get. it's my Money, and My time, and my Love for Liverpool that keeps me going.
so why dont ya send me an e.mail and lets work Together?
Thanks for the post, and all the best, Phil Bimpson.
P.s if ya want to send a personal message click on the link on the right hand side, cheers, phil

I truly appreciate and respect what you are doing; however was the Sun really an appropriate publication to be doing any business with.   You must be aware how this rag is thought of in your home city.

PHIL SAYS. 17.03pm
Hi gary, Thanks for the post.
Yes, i Know and agree with the views of my fellow scousers, But, We have to show the world that we are Honest, hardworking and proud of our Heritage, SO what better way to do this than to use the Media that was once negative and against us for POSITIVE UNBIASED COVERAGE OF ALL THE GOOD THINGS IN OUR CITY.

Nov 29 2006 09:07 am
Not too keen on the references to the Sun newspaper.

As a Scouser you should be aware of the contempt most of this city holds that newspaper in.

Shame.
